Friends of Infrastructure is on top of the issues.
December 4, 2007 - The San Diego Union Tribune reports the "The San Diego Council beats veto on water recycling. For the first time, the San Diego City Council overcame a veto by Mayor Jerry Sanders on a major issue. Even more remarkable was the subject they chose to confront him on: launching a controversial initiative that could make San Diego one of the few cities in the country that recycles its wastewater in its reservoirs . .
"Representatives from businesses, environmental groups, a leading taxpayer group and a scientific society urged the council to move ahead into what is essentially a new study phase for water recycling. Several of them pointed to Orange County, where agencies tout their massive plant designed to inject heavily treated wastewater into the aquifer system. 'Indirect potable reuse is scientifically feasible and a safe water supply,' said Katherine Hon, representing the Friends of Infrastructure, a newly formed group of engineers in the San Diego region.
Friends of Infrastructure members wrote letters to their council representatives and spoke at the council meeting in support of the wastewater recycling plan.
The ASCE San Diego Section was recognized by Council Member Donna Frye for writing a letter of support. Council Member Toni Atkins sent an acknowledgement letter thanking a Friend for her input.
